Seacoal, also known as ground bituminous coal, reduces the atmosphere in the mold cavity. Therefore, Seacoal promotes a reducing atmosphere within the mold cavity. It has a 30-35% volatile content and is the main component to improve the peel of the sand from the casting at shakeout. Typically seacoal is added to premix with the clay components at an average of 20-25%.
