Promotes the formation of pearlite in ductile iron which leads to higher strength with lower elongations.
Up to 0.10% stabilizes the pearlite preventing its decomposition to ferrite and graphite. Thus, it increases hardness and improves both strength and resistance to wear.
Used in small amounts, titanium is a potent graphitizer and grain refiner in cast iron.
