Ferrosilicon is by far the most common addition agent in the metal casting industry, and it is used in the production of iron and steel alloys. In cast iron production, ferrosilicon or Fe Si can be used as an inoculant and can help prevent the formation of carbides. In steel, Fe Si is used as a deoxidizer and alloying agent.
