Biasill Staurolite Sand
Our staurolite sand can be used as a foundry molding sand or an abrasive blasting media. This naturally occurring, rounded staurolite sand (general formula FeAl5Si2O12OH) is washed and graded to ensure freedom from dust, dirt, and ultrafines. The staurolite sand is magnetically separated from other heavy minerals to produce a highly uniform grade. Biasill has a low coefficient of thermal expansion, and high thermal conductivity reduces casting defects and yield improved metal surfaces. The AFS grain fineness number of 66-75 and a low melting point of 2500-2800 degrees F make it ideal for most foundry molding applications involving; aluminum, magnesium, brass & bronze, and small iron castings (blended with silica).
