Gilsonite is a carbonaceous pitch. Gilsonite is used like seacoal but in lower percentages. It is 90% volatile, so it can add to gas defects if too high of addition. Gilsonite is used for excellent lustrous carbon generation and the aid in casting peel. Gilsonite works very well in brass-type foundry sand systems.
